I am from a place,
lost in a sea of books.
The Bobbsey Twins and
My Side of the Moutain.
The seashore and seashells,
the sandy beach, waves going in and out,
splashing the souls of our feet.
I am from volleyball tournaments,
soaking up the sun on big beach towels.
Eating good ol' Hershey's Chocolate bars.
Melting in your fingers, messy!
I am from Disney's Kurt Russel,
Sesame Street with the little brother,
Elmo, Oscar and Little Bear.
No "groovy" or "cool" singers
better than Peter, Paul and Mary.
Except the sister's boyfriend's fav: Elvis.
I am from accordion and piano lessons,
4H knitting, scarfs and hats.
From reading and hiking trips,
babysitting and score keeping.
I am from the cooking and the cleaning,
making sure the house sparkles.
The house wife, the mom.
I am from a striped family tree,
I am the one leaf, falling to the ground.
A Doane Tiger, a mother to be.

In essence, this was an ode to my mother. It depicts the highlights of her childhood from when she was about 10 years old. We are all connected, and I am my mother's child.
